Honor and Loyalty : CAMEROON : Champion of co-security in central africa

A solemn parade to honour troops returning from a hectic peacekeeping mission. During this celebration-like ritual, the Nation expresses its gratitude to its worthy representatives, and each soldier concerned can experience his moment of glory.

A glory all the more deserved, considering that despite its pacifist vocation, a twelve-month peace mission is far from being a long calm river, as the staff mandated to carry it out find themselves de facto at the intersection of factional differences resulting very often into outbreaks of indiscriminate violence. Peacekeepers are regularly innocent victims.

It is therefore without illusions, but with firm hopes in the remission of this brotherly country, that Cameroon has undertaken to work for the return of peace in the Central African Republic, as is currently the case under the aegis of MINUSCA, that is, the United Nations Integrated Multidimensional Stabilisation Mission in the Central African Republic.

After eight deployments properly executed and a ninth in progress, the horizon line of peace seems to be constantly fluctuating, suddenly placing the mission in an exhausting perspective of sustainability. This situation is likely to begin the resolution of more than one good will, especially as more and more questions arise on the possible motives ofsuppressing this instability in the long term.

It may well be that there are hidden somewhere, entities nursing plans to see the waters of the old Oubangui-Chari space more troubled, in order to carry out all kinds of miraculous fishing there.

However, this is not the wish of Cameroon, a country which has a lot to lose from the weakening of Central African socio-economic institutions. Firstly, at the social and humanitarian level, the hundreds of thousands of Central African refugees sheltered in camps or hosted by people residing in Cameroon are significantly increasing the pressure on the natural resources available in their immediate environment.

In social and security terms, the predatory incursions of renegade bands coming from the other side of the border destabilise our local populations, reducing their means of subsistence to a bare minimum.

In addition, the slowdown in activity on the Douala-Bangui corridor is putting a substantial strain on our public budget revenue. There are so many inconveniences and shortfalls that cannot be compensated by any situation of instability, and just as many affinities and sensitivities that the Cameroonian soldier has the mission to restore, protect and consolidate.

Taking all this into account, without limiting ourselves to the multiplicity of identity referents that are common to us, the Cameroonian nation cannot remain impassive in the face of the misfortunes that afflict its Central African neighbour.

Also, in this atmosphere of general tension and permanent uncertainty, keeping one’s composure, ensuring the very security of one’s aggressors, and coming to everyone’s aid, is a matter of extraordinary self-sacrifice and dedication. It requires an exceptional attitude of tact, altruism and professionalism which has earned our country a voice in the international arena.

It couldn’t be otherwise, from a country that aspires to be the champion of co-security, and a guarantor of co-development and co-prosperity in the Central African sub-region.

And as Antoine Rivarolonce said, no Nation pursuesan interest detrimental to its own wellbeing. Certainly, the wellbeing of Cameroon lies in that of its neighbours. /-
