Cameroon – Honor and Loyalty/AFRICA : A key player in global geostrategy

How right they were, those forecasting analysts who, standing on the fringes of the prevailing euphoria following the break-up of the Eastern Bloc, had predicted that our world, now in search of bearings, would enter a critical zone after the loss of bipolarity.A situation ardently desired by those who found in itan opportunity to have a monopoly ofcontrol over the world.

But obviously, they did not foresee the resistance of the actors whose monopoly meant disappearance of empires, even less, the irrepressible desire for freedom of the peoples formerly under the flag, and who only swear by multipolarity.

As a result, the world is in a colossal mess, with a more than sluggish monopolarity, a combative bipolarity, and a multipolarity that isevidently divergent, but just as predatory as the primates of the past.

And there lies the danger for the States of our continent resisting major ideological and economic groupings, yet the only ones able to prevent them from falling prey to insidious approaches called proximity, which are in reality hegemonies of poor quality and workmanship.

For if, through the interplay of influences, Africa today finds itself at the centre of the world geostrategic chessboard, the interest thus aroused makes it a vital stake for the very survival of many foreign powers. A position that one might think generates privileges. Except that in dictionary terms, the stake would be a bet, a price, and a gain. It is in any case, an object of desire for entrepreneurs, or competitors, in this case. This could justify the increasingly high level of international diplomatic cross-over observed on the continent.

But if the black continent has so much to offer, it still has to master the channels for developing its resources, as well as how to define terms of trade with its partners. In this quest for sovereignty, it is the will that is least lacking.

And as one would expect, African ambition is torpedoed from all sides, very often by these same friends who only wish us well. Proof of this is the assistance and other support provided both in the fight against a strangely resilient and growing terrorism, and in development aid. These approaches in the end, only aim to facilitate penetration and perpetuate the presence of rather invasive and above all, very regrettably, incapacitating benefactors.

Therefore, the current apolarity of the world would be an opportunity for our continent to finally correct the disparities that have long been detrimental to its assertion in the international arena. Of course, the path to achieving equality with the other worlds will be long and perilous, but it is often said that unity is strength!

It is up to our peoples and youth to make Africa not a stake of any importance whatsoever, but a major multidimensional player in global geostrategy.
