Cameroon - National Unity : 20 May 2021: Health patriotism against COVID-19
For the second year in a row, the festivities commemorating our National Unity will not take place. On May 20, 2021, there will be no fanfare, no stirring patriotic songs sung in the depths of one's heart. No parade in the avenues and festival squares. There will be no sighting of the various components of our Defence and Security Forces, hammering out their determination to preserve, come what may be, the sovereignty, freedom and security of Cameroon, our Fatherland.
At the dawn of this Thursday, May 20, 2021, the images of the passage of the political parties bearing slogans that are accommodating for some and vindictive for others will also remain in the memory of our impatient desires. In addition, how can we not think of the parade of our youth full of vitality, our young population already committed to building a brighter tomorrow, for the national triangle, for the land of our ancestors?
Once more, the health risk posed by the COVID-19 pandemic deprives us of our traditional, but always exceptional moments of unity vehemence. The Army-Nation bond nevertheless remains a solid achievement.
Then, the COVID-19 could not impose itself on us for long, just as the separation that they wanted to impose on us was not imposed yesterday. Because the National Unity Day is not just an emotional subjectivity in the calendar of public holidays.
The commemoration of the Unitary State is at the same time an appreciation of the ideal conquered by our predecessors, a renewal of the heritage to be transmitted to future generations and a moment of gathering and reconstitution of all the forces of the Cameroonian Nation, convinced of perpetuating in cohesion, the unceasing quest for a better future.
No, this health scourge can no longer reduce us to the monastic remembrance of one of the most glorious events in the life of our Nation, when our jubilant hearts are impatient to bring their spark of life to the flame of the rediscovered unity.
Following the example of our national heroes who stood as one man against the colonial oppressor and his demons of division, freeing ourselves from the deadly yoke of the viral oppressor becomes a compelling national duty for all. A duty that requires a united front underpinned by an ironclad health patriotism.
Certainly, the popular outpourings will not take place next Thursday May 20 2021. But from the northern Lake Chad to the southern Sangha, from the Bombé in the east to the Cross River in the west, the sons and daughters of our country will rejoice in the benefits of unity. Unity to resist the insidious insinuations of the new tribalist, separatist, fundamentalist and amoralist slaveries. Unity to develop and make Cameroon the best place to live for all its children!
