Cameroon – Honor and Loyalty : SECURITY CRISES IN CAMEROON: Truths from public discourse

It is in vain that we expected thunderous declarations promising hell to the murderers who slew our brothers and sisters, be they civilians or soldiers. It is in vain that we predicted a retaliatory agitation in the areas consumed by the fire of the worst predatory gangsterism, which we are trying to sugar-coat.

It is a complete waste that media platforms, some with large audiences, praised and continue to praise the so-called unstoppable strategy of armed terrorist groups. This position is intended to discredit the effective action of our government authorities, at the same time as it aims to break the moral compass of our people. In reality, this manoeuvre confirms long-suspected collusions.

However, neither the multiple provocations of our enemies nor the media schemes have succeeded in tipping our government into the trap of blind retaliation which is set for it, nor have our courageous people resigned themselves to suffering without flinching, the bloody diktat of perjury to the fatherland. Better than in the past, our people have courageously continued to denounce these paid criminals.

It must be said that the tact of our authorities and the professionalism of our defence and security forces seriously disconcert the entrepreneurs of chaos who only know a rule of bloodshed.

Unlike what happens elsewhere in similar circumstances, the incitement to escalation initiated by armed terrorist groups through the use of heavy weapons against forces on a law enforcement mission has only met with a reminderofsecurity instructions, for more vigilance on the operational environment and more balance and discrimination in any possible use of force.

With the perceptible exhaustion of the panoply of their operating methods, there is still a risk that the unrepentant anarchist violence in the North-West and the South-West Regions will in turn resort to human bombs. In any case, the closeness of their collusions with the Haramists brings them very close to the ideology of suicide.

In the meantime, there is no need to make a dangerous and counterproductive conflation between peaceful people and their predators. Above all, it is pointless to take revenge for the death of brothers in arms or blood, even if they had been cowardly taken from existence, and even if their lifeless bodies had been mutilated.

Moreover, the peace offer from the President of the Republic, Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, to our lost fellow citizens remains relevant. Its objective remains to achieve a cessation of violence both in the Far-North, as well as in the North-West and the South-West.

This is an ending that in no way requires the population of cemeteries but rather of centres for disarmament, demobilisation and reintegration of ex-combatants who have come to their senses.
