CAMEROON DEFENCE FORCES: A SECURE FUTURE FOR YOUTHS

The phenomenon coming from the purest paradox, one of those subliminal manifestations of Mother Nature that our human rationality considers to be an aberration. Do you see! As soon as information on the competition or recruitment into the Military is made public, applications are submitted, by tens of thousands. Almost 30,000 files received for 2,200 places in the recruitment of commandos of the Rapid Intervention Battalion-BIR, more than 100,000 files received for only 9,610 spaces, in terms of competitions and recruitments into the Armed Forces and the National Gendarmerie.

In view of the current environment marked by an unprecedented high level of security threats to the State, people and property, a certain reluctance on the part of young people to the idea of putting on the uniform would have been understandable, the high probability of an accident being likely to chill even the most inflamed enthusiasms. The Military makes no secret of its losses on the ground.

For a Cameroonian youth highly connected to the social networks full of enticing prospects, the rigours and harshness of the profession of a soldier would have constituted perfect scarecrows. Moreover, even, its sufficiently high level of education would have opened to this youth, the doors of less tormented and otherwise more lucrative horizons. Notwithstanding, the enthusiasm for service under the flag of the Republic is such that among the postulants, many do not hesitate to find ungodly means to make their way in, hopingto increase their chances of being selected.

It is in order to discourage such shady maneuvers, potentially degrading the quality of the verdict of recruiting agents, that the hierarchy of the Ministry of Defence has just addressed an energetic warning to their initiators.

Nevertheless, what, then, can attract so many young people to the military? Neither the scarcity of employment opportunities, nor the love for risk, nor the salary treatment, can by themselves justify the sacrificial commitment of a youth that one would think is only attracted by the doctrine of a certain casualness to pleasure-seeking hints.

In the drift of an increasingly dehumanized and less united society, these young Cameroonians are looking for an anchor point for the development of their ideal, a source of authority that can increase and channel their energies.

Our young people eager to serve their country in military uniform, are looking for their rightful place in the community of the Nation, to which they have the innate feeling of belonging, the Nation to which they want to devote their physical aptitudes, mental dispositions, courage and skills.

While virtually, all other sectors of the society allow themselves to be won over by the globalization of immorality and indifference. For these young boys and girls, the Cameroon Defence Forces represent the confidence in the strength of the group and success through effort, the immovable foundation of unity, the guarantee of fraternity, the spirit of cohesion and the code of honour. This is also, what makes the success of the Cameroon Defence Forces. / -
